House rejects debt-limit increase
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — House lawmakers on Wednesday rejected President Barack Obama’s request to raise the U.S. debt ceiling by .2 trillion, in a largely symbolic election-year move. The Republican-led House voted 239-176 to deny Obama the increase, but the hike is expected to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate and Obama would be able to veto a rejection if one passed both chambers of Congress.
