SYDNEY (MarketWatch) — Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced Wednesday that the country’s next general election will be held on Sept. 14, according to reports. Gillard said that announcing the date offers certainty to businesses, Dow Jones Newswires reported. With an almost nine-month lead into the election, the ensuing campaign will be one of the longest in Australian political history, as campaigns usually last around one month, Reuters reported. Gillard leads a fragile minority government, which has a one seat majority.
