CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — The International Air Transport Association said Friday that global traffic in November was soft in both passenger and air cargo markets. While passenger traffic was up 4.3% from November 2010, the group noted that it is still showing a 0.5% decline on a seasonally-adjusted basis. Freight traffic fell 3.1% from the same month a year ago. “Weak global economic performance is being reflected in air transport markets,” said Tony Tyler, IATA’s director general, in announcing the results. “Freight markets have contracted some 4% compared to January. Although passenger markets have had some growth relative to the beginning of the year, the trend has been both soft and volatile.” He added that “continuing economic uncertainty will likely mean market shortcomings deepening as we enter 2012.”
